I read the Alice part of the story and skimmed the rest. For that alone, I can recommend this book to children who think Lewis Carroll’s original works are important enough to warrant further tinkering.more They give the book a timeless quality (ha!) that makes it worth treasuring. They look as if they were done by at least three or four different people and they suit the storylines admirably. However, I found the illustrations to be utterly alluring. So why shouldn’t he get his own place in the literature? He gives as well as takes and he doesn’t like himself to be trifled with because he has his own sense of dignity. When he whispers that he hopes someone used their time well, you can sense that he means it. I found the character, as portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen, to be charming, contradictory, imperious, amusing, pompous and yet kindly. Also, I wanted Time to have his share in the book. There aren’t that many variants of the cinematic plot and some of them are downright awful (poor Iracebeth comes in for more than her share of unpleasant fates-she’d likely think that was unfair). I expected more from a choose-your-own-adventure book than a few meager alterations.
